OUR STORY

The Monarch House is a Western-inspired clothing, home and gift boutique, and interior decorating business located on the historic downtown square in Canyon, Texas, just south of Amarillo.

For Jaime, The Monarch House brings together the things she loves most: finding unique pieces and a style shaped by generations of family roots in the Texas Panhandle. As the owner and interior decorator behind The Monarch House, Jaime brings those influences together in a style where old meets new, feminine meets Western and there’s always a little color and character.

The roots of The Monarch House were planted generations ago on the plains of the Texas Panhandle. Her family settled here in the mid-1800s, raising cattle and farming the land. Jaime is a sixth-generation cattle rancher, carrying on that legacy alongside her parents and her daughters, Jaiden and Blair, the seventh generation.

Much of what Jaime does creatively is shaped by those roots and those who built them. She has always been drawn to things that pull at your heart a little, whether it’s something worn by time, old wood, worn leather and silver, or a piece passed down and given new life.

Western isn't simply an aesthetic or a trend here. It's home. It’s our way of life.

You'll see its influence throughout The Monarch House, from Western art and home decor to clothing and vintage finds, from brands we believe in and makers we connect with. We love an old saddle beneath a beautiful table, Western art beside something feminine and a vintage find mixed with something brand new. Because the most interesting homes and wardrobes aren't perfectly matched. They're collected over a lifetime.

That belief began to take shape in the homes Jaime created for her own family. As they moved throughout Texas, Colorado and New Mexico, each house became a place to make their own, beautiful enough to reflect her creativity but comfortable enough for real life. 

When life eventually brought Jaime back to the Texas Panhandle, it also brought her back to the roots that had shaped so much of her life and style. Local entrepreneur Marci Abrahamson took her under her wing at Moonwater, where Jaime gained experience in retail, continued growing as a decorator and found the confidence to begin building something of her own.

From there, The Monarch House began to take shape through Jaime's interior decorating work, but she always felt like something was missing. Over the years, she and her girls had talked and dreamed about someday having a store of their own, never really knowing if or when it might happen.

Then in God's perfect timing, Jaime connected with Lacynda Hunter and Annie Schacher of The Flying Pig, and the pieces began to fall into place. Today, The Monarch House and The Flying Pig share a storefront at 414 15th St. on the historic downtown square in Canyon.

Behind the Name

The butterfly has always carried a special meaning for Jaime. It represents transformation, new beginnings, hope and strength, and has become a reminder to trust where God is leading, even when the path ahead isn't entirely clear.

For Jaime, its meaning is also deeply personal. Her grandmother, Bettye, lovingly known as Meme, passed away in 2004. In the years since, butterflies have become a quiet reminder of her. They seem to find Jaime in the moments she needs them most, bringing a sense of comfort, reassurance, and a smile.

As the Lord led Jaime through seasons of change, new beginnings and ultimately back home to her roots, the butterfly took on even greater meaning. Through that journey, The Monarch House was born.
